Next month is the long anticipated release of Surviving Spring Break With Ryan Rupert, and today I’m super excited to bring you a first look at it!
“I’m hungry!” Aubany whined, like the little brat she was. Trailing behind her parents as they hiked over a decaying, fallen log, she looked positively miserable. The sight filled me with the richest delight.
“Seriously? You ate, like, two hours ago, I replied. The leaves under my feet crunched as I walked. “If you eat any more, you’ll get all fat! Then you’ll look like a balloon!”
Aubany shot me a dirty glare before whipping her head towards her mum—her red hair flying in the process. She stomped her foot.
“Mum! Ryan’s being mean again!”
“Oh, for pity’s sake, you two, would you cut it out?” Mrs. Winters scolded, looking at the two of us over her shoulder. She wore a huge backpack, and she had to peer down at us. “You’ve both done nothing but bicker for the entire trip!”
I saw Aubany grumble something under her breath and fold her arms over her chest, but it went unnoticed by Mrs. Winters.
Up ahead, my parents were taking photos with Mr. Winters on their brand-new Nikon D80 camera. My mum spotted us coming up the hiking track and her eyes gleamed with excitement.
“Ryan! Smile!” she sang, pointing the lens my way. I grinned, and the shutter went off. She then went on to photograph Aubany, who was still pouting.
We’d been walking for what seemed like a million years. There hadn’t been much to look at apart from trees, so when Dad announced that he could see something up ahead, my heart began to race with excitement.
“Look!” he said, pointing through the bristly pine trees. We all peered through the dense forestry, and made out what appeared to be a cabin. Dad took a step towards it, intending to go and check it out.
“Honey, that’s someone’s property,” my mum scolded, pulling dad back. “We shouldn’t pry.”
The four adults continued onward, bickering about being adventurous, and I was about to follow them but I noticed Aubany sitting on a rock, pulling off her shoe. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
“Come on, Aubany!” I said. Couldn’t she wait until we got back to rest her feet?
“There’s a rock in my shoe!” she protested, shaking her trainer up and down vigorously. I sighed, and decided to wait for her. The last thing we needed was for her to get lost. Grimacing, I looked around as I waited. My attention went back to the cabin, and to my surprise, I saw a girl standing in the view.
Staring at me.
The girl continued to watch us, and I got an uncomfortable feeling.
“Hurry up, Aubany, or I’m leaving without you,” I said nervously, wanting to catch up to my parents. The girl’s piercing stare was making me anxious.
“Just wait!” Aubany whined obliviously, tying her shoe laces. I anxiously kept an eye on the strange girl. She hadn’t moved. Just continued to stare. What a creep!
“There!” Aubany announced, jumping up from the rock.
Finally! I grabbed her by the arm and tugged hard. Ignoring her protests, I dragged the both of us out of there, until we were a safe distance away, before resuming our normal pace.
Call me crazy, but something wasn’t right about that girl, and I wasn’t hanging around to find out what.
It’s been seven months since Aubany’s nightmare vacation to Nula Island—where she not only fell in love with her snarky neighbor, Ryan Rupert, but survived a brutal stabbing to the gut.
Now, Aubany has been invited by her friend Lewis to his family’s cabin in the mountains of Blakesky for Spring Break. However, memories of Courtney attacking her still plague her—even though it’s been months since her last sighting. Not to mention that Ryan has started avoiding conversations about the future together, and the town of Blakesky has a strange, unsettling history surrounding it.
But nothing could possibly bring Courtney back into their lives after all this time, and things with her and Ryan are fine… Or at least, that’s what Aubany’s determined to believe—except Aubany’s no safer in Blakesky than she was on Nula Island, and she’s about to discover a dark secret that will not only threaten her and Ryan’s relationship… but could bring her face to face with death once more.
