I Re-read The Harry Potter Series—Here’s My Favourite Scene From Each Book

Uncategorized

In late 2021, I re-read the Harry Potter series so that I could re-immerse myself in the story and finally finish the second book in my Harry Potter fanfiction.

While I was reading, I couldn’t help jotting down some of my personal, favourite scenes from each book, and I wanted to share them with you:

Book One: “Yer A Wizard Harry”

The first book has LOTS of good moments, but the friendship between Hagrid and Harry is one of my favourite things throughout the entire series. So this moment where they first meet, and he tells him he’s a wizard? Iconic.

Book Two: When The Weasley Twins, Ron and Harry Get Caught By Mrs. Dursley

I love the Weasley twins, and I love the dynamic between their troublemaking stunts and Mrs Weasley. That moment when they land the car in the yard, and create a plan to sneak in, only to be foiled? The reactions are priceless.

Book Three: When Harry Blows Up His Aunt And Leaves The Dursleys

It’s not so much the fact that Harry blew up his terrible Aunt that I like about this scene, but rather, the fact that he finally stands up for himself to the Dursleys. You notice that in the books moving forward, there’s a lot more pushback and a lot less tolerance to his family’s terrible ways. This was the pivital moment where Harry decided he’d had enough and chose to put himself first, and it was a power moment. I was so proud of him.

Book Four: When The Weasley’s Get Stuck In The Dursley’s Fireplace

This scene is *chef’s kiss* and I cannot believe it’s not in the movies! If you haven’t read the books, the Weasley’s come to collect Harry from the Dursleys for the Quiddich World Cup, and they try to travel through floo powder without realising that the Dursley’s have an electic fireplace. So they get stuck behind the closed in brick, and they start piling up and cursing, and to top off the hilarious scene, we have the Weasley twin’s sarcasm. It’s pure gold.

Book Five: When Moody, Remus and Mr. Weasley Threaten Mr. Dursley

I love the very last scene of this book, where after feeling so alone for the year and losing his godfather, the people in Harry’s life show him how much he really means to them by showing their support and telling Mr. Dursley to treat Harry more kindly. It’s such a wholesome moment and it’s filled with a feeling of friendship and family.

Book Six: When Dumbledore And Harry Go To The Cave To Find The Horcrux

My favourite line in the entire book series is the line where Dumbledore tells Harry “I’m not scared, I am with you.” Harry and Dumbledore have such an interesting relationship in the books, and I think this was a really vulnerable scene filled with trust (especially with what came next.) It kind of wraps up their relationship nicely and shows how far they’ve come working together to defeat Voldermort.

Book Seven: When Harry Goes To Face His Death At The Hands Of Voldermort

This scene makes me emotional every single time for a lot of reasons. It really puts you in the shoes of someone who knows they’re about to die, and is chosing to do so for noble cause. Harry is one of the bravest characters I’ve ever read, and I really feel it when it talks about wanting to see his friends one last time but deciding it would be too hard. If I were in his shoes, I would also think about everyone I’m leaving behind and I would want to be with the people I love most, who I had happy times with and shared so much with. The entire scene, right up until the very end, is done so well.
