Hey, and welcome back to #TeaTime!
Today, I want to talk about my business goals for 2018. I know that for some, 2017 was a real disaster— and I’m not going to lie, there were rough patches for me as well *cough* Cyclone Debbie *cough*.
But, 2017 was also one of the greatest years of my life. I really managed to turn things around for myself, and that’s because I decided enough was enough. I took charge of my life— I quit my job waitressing, and put all my energy and focus into my career:
- I landed my internship/Marketing Assistant position at Pen Name Publishing.
- I started my business, Paperback Kingdom.
- I got a publishing contract for my book, Lanterns in the Sky, with The Parliament House Publishing.
Maybe it sounds like a pipe dream for you, but it doesn’t have to be. 2018 can be the year you change YOUR life, and I hope my goal setting inspires you to set goals for your future as well.
So here’s what I want to achieve in 2018:
Writing Goals:
Technically, this falls under the business category because I treat my writing and my books like a business. I currently have a number of writing projects I’m working on:
- Release a revised edition of Ryan Rupert #1
- Work with The Parliament House Publishing on Lanterns in the Sky
- Finish Essence of the Angels (Starlight Chronicles #2)
- Finish the companion novella to Starlight Chronicles.
- Finish writing & uploading Life of Wren to Wattpad.
- Write at least ½ of the sequel to my HP fanfiction that people keep asking about.
- Start on my new book, Sacred Waters.
- Finish the sequel to Ryan Rupert.
And here’s a progress meter, which I’ll try and keep updated (last update – 07/3):
- Ryan Rupert #1 is undergoing professional revision editing.
- I’ve been assigned an editor for LITS.
- I’m rewriting EOTA and haven’t yet finished a draft.
- I’m ¼ through my companion novel.
- I’m 1/3 through writing LOW and just at 1/2 through chapter uploads.
- I’m updating my HP sequel fanfic regularly on Fridays.
- I have a rough draft of Sacred Waters lying around somewhere but it needs a rewrite.
- I’m ½ through the Ryan Rupert sequel but haven’t touched it in a year and have forgotten what I’ve written.
Business Goals:
I started Paperback Kingdom in October and I’m more than happy with my growth and progress, but I realized recently that I needed to make some changes to the way I’ve presented the business, which has been my January focus.
I’ve invested in Kimberly Ann Jimenez’s Business Lounge, which I highly recommend if anyone is struggling in their biz. For $59.00 a month, you get access to more courses than you could think up, and it’s been an actual gamechanger to help me build and tweak Paperback Kingdom into a thriving business.
By the end of 2018, I want to:
- Be making consistent income (my goal is 100,000K annually)
- Have completed the two major courses I’ll be offering through the business.
- Have grown my mailing list to 300 people, minimum.
- Have a combined following across all social media platforms of 6000 engaged people, minimum.
- Completely book out the PBK FB Group’s Monthly Reading Challenge (I’m only 3 spots away from this goal— see what we’re reading here).
- Grow the book blogger directory to 100 book blogs.
- Help 30 authors with their careers, minimum.
And here’s a progress meter, which I’ll try and keep updated (last update – 07/3):
- Currently making: $9K consistent income, annually
- Currently creating the two courses.
- Mailing list = 55 people
- Currently have 2,106 combined following on social media (but only about ¼ is engaged)
- MRC = 9/12 spots booked
- BBD = 13/100
- I’ve helped 3/30 so far.
General Goals:
I have a few other goals which tie into my business as an overall, and I’m really hoping to achieve them:
- Speak at a writing festival (at least one).
- Get 100 reviews on Ryan Rupert #1 after the revised edition is released.
What are your goals for 2018? I’d love to know!
