Her heart was fated. Her destiny was her own.
Ember Dragon Daughter is the first installment in an exciting epic YA dark fantasy series that fans of The Selection and A Court of Thorns and Roses will devour.
In a world where true love is promised and dragons have gone missing, a mysterious fateless plague threatens the enclosed kingdom of Ashkadance.
When Ember is thrust into a dangerous new world, she will uncover truths tied to the plague, the death of her moms, the royal family, and more–changing everything she’s ever known. Now that she has love and her secrets are revealed, will she risk all that she has gained to accept her destined fate? Or will she rebel against it?
Ember has spent her whole life running, keeping herself and her secrets isolated–just like her moms would have wanted. Ember doesn’t want that anymore.
What I Liked:
- The concept of the world in this book is SO unique–it eliminates love triangles. This isn’t like Matched by Ally Condie where they ~eliminate~ love triangles but then there’s an actual love triangle. There are NO love triangles, period–and yet, still plenty of other creative, shocking twists to keep you entertained.
- The characters! I became attached to so many characters (which, if I’m being honest, set me up for some heartbreaking betrayals).
- The diversity! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where a character had same-sex parents, which made it even more interesting. It’s a great step forward for diversifying literature.
What I Disliked:
- I didn’t dislike anything except the fact that I have to wait for book two because THAT ENDING. I am dying to know what happens next and how this story is going to continue with so many new doors opened in the world Rebecca has created.
Exciting, diversifying, game-changing and entirely gripping. It’s basically the book you’ve been asking for your entire life with every modern literary taboo eliminated in one hit.
