Feyre has saved Tamlin, and all of Prythian, with the cost of her life. Now, she is reborn as High Fae, and is struggling to deal with what she went through Under the Mountain…
OKAY so I have a lot of thoughts.
A lot of thoughts.
The only reason this review didn’t go up straight away is because I NEEDED A MINUTE TO PROCESS THIS, MAN.
If you read my review of the first book, you’ll know that I am not a fan of Beauty and the Beast, so it was a struggle to get into the first book. But THIS book… this book slayed!
WARNING – THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
What I liked:
I was probably, maybe twenty pages in and my Tamlin x Feyre ship sunk. Like, ca-clunk, at the bottom of the ocean, to make way for the Rhysand who I was really unsure of in the last book.
But, I was also soooo uncertain about tossing Tamlin for Rhysand after everything that had happened in book one. We jumped three months ahead, so it took a moment to wrap my head around the fact that Feyre had been suffering all that time when we’d just been fighting to the death for Tamlin.
So, saying all of that, I found the pacing in which Feyre’s feelings changed perfectly matched to my own, as a reader. And I could see her perspective crystal clear.
Secondly, I found the Night Court, faerie Feyre, and just book two as a whole far more interesting and enjoyable to read. There was a lot more going on than wandering the gardens and painting, which was good.
Oh, and I really liked how much foreshadowing was explained!! There were so many detailed links from the first book that had me like: OHHHHH.
What I disliked:
At first, I was turned off by the introduction of so many new characters. And the startling lack of Lucien, who I’d loved reading about in book one. But eventually these characters grew on me and I definitely appreciate them now.
Character thoughts:
Feyre – Faerie Feyre is a total badass. I love her. She’s got a lot of strength and personality, as well as loyalty to people she loves. Her emotions really speak to me.
Nesta & Elain – I’m really glad these two got more involved in this book. And that ending— my heart died! Like WHAT? IS THIS REAL? DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?
Tamlin – Ugh, man, I wanted to believe this guy could change. I know he loves Feyre but like, the dude has got to sort out his issues. I wanted to throttle this guy when he didn’t listen to Feyre, even after she made it painstakingly clear that it was over between them.
Lucien – I loved Lucien. I think there’s a chance for him to redeem himself but he let me down in this book. I was so disappointed in him for siding with Tamlin again and again. I know there are loyalties there but don’t be a pushover!
Rhysand – OKAY so remember when I said “Are we supposed to like this guy”? LOL. I totally understand now. He redeemed himself the moment he got Feyre out of that house. I remember feeling like Tamlin was perfect for Feyre but I was so wrong.
Armen, Mor, Cassien and Azriel – I know these guys are all really different personalities but I don’t have much to say about them except that I like them all for various reasons. The one person I didn’t really connect much with was Azriel, but I liked Cassien a lot, and Mor is really cool too. Armen was very funny a lot of the time too.
Final Thoughts:
I loved this book, it was fun and interesting and the end made me feel so many emotions! I’ve already started reading the third one.
What did you think of this book? Let me know!
